As usual, the second race of the weekend would use a reverse grid from the result of the preceding race. Since Fast Lane Racing won the preceding race, this meant we would be starting last and Throttle Heads Racing, our major rival would be starting one position ahead of us. With the faster cars at the back of the grid, the race start is nearly always chaotic as the fast cars try to move up to the front of the grid as soon as possible.
And that was exactly what happened. Utter chaos as we tried to keep up with Throttle Heads Racing, to avoid having slower cars taking up position between us. If we get stuck behind a slow car, any faster cars ahead of it would be building a massive advantage as they would have a free run ahead of them. So in the opening lap, as the race started, we were just about neck and neck in the braking zone with Throttle Heads Racing when their driver made a late decision to swerve into the space in front of us in order to overtake African Elephant Racing. This literally eliminated our braking zone and our driver had to take evasive action to avoid rear ending him (Throttle Heads Racing).
The result was a massive spin and our car falling back to last. In the first turn of the opening lap of the most important race of the season! Our driver reported being able to hear the gasp of the spectators as the massive cloud of dust rose in the air. But we didn’t come here to finish last. Or second. So he was not going to give up because opportunities won’t exist to those who are not there to grab them.
